Modern Servant Leader - Top Tweeter 2012 - Standard BadgeThis past year (2012) marked the third year I’ve compiled the Top Tweeters list (see 2010 & 2011 for more). I’m happy to say the competition increases each year. Below is the top 10 for this year, plus honorable mentions and the award for both.

Please be sure to comment with any feedback or anyone I missed. You can also follow all those listed here and more at my “Servant Leaders” Twitter List. Here’s to an even tougher competition in 2013!

Mark Miller Twitter Profile7. Mark Miller (@LeadersServe)

Mark Miller has the good fortune to work for one of the all-time great servant leadership companies: Chick-fil-A. He takes the great wisdom and experience from there (and likely many other sources) and shares it with the world on Twitter and at his blog (Great Leaders Serve).

Twitter Profile: Business leader (Chick-fil-A corporate staff), author, communicator, photographer, husband and father. Called to encourage and equip leaders around the world.

Ken Blanchard Twitter Profile6. Ken Blanchard (@KenBlanchard)

Long-time leadership great, Ken Blanchard continues share his wisdom with us across many channels. His tweets are a mix of posts from his own site and pearls of wisdom from his books or new insights. If you’ve read any of Ken’s books, you’ll also enjoy his Twitter stream.

Joe Iarocci Twitter Profile5. Joe Iarroci (@JoeIarocci)

The Greenleaf Center welcomed Joe Iarroci as their new CEO this year. Joe’s been very prominent on the Servant Leadership streams of Twitter ever since. Joe does a great job of connecting on the social platforms as both a friend and colleague. I think many SL advocates look forward to what 2013 will bring for Greenleaf under Joe’s service.

Twitter Profile: CEO, Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership @greenleafcenter: better leadership = better world.

Jessica Zisa Twitter Profile4. Jessica Zisa (@Jessica_Zisa)

Marylhurst Univeristy’s Center for Servant Leadership recently had Jessica Zisa join their team. It’s been a great addition, it seems. Jessica’s contributions frequently top my stream of social media tweets as she shares great posts, news and events. Let’s hope Marylhurst keeps up this great work, when Jessica’s internship is over.

S. Chris Edmonds Twitter Profile3. S. Chris Edmonds (@SCEdmonds)

Last year’s #1 place holder, Chris continues to do an amazing job, sharing servant leadership awareness and insights on Twitter. In addition to his work with Ken Blanchard, I frequently see his content associated with other great leadership thought leaders.

Bill Flint Twitter Profile2. Bill Flint (@FlintPartners)

Bill Flint’s new e-Book launched this year, entitled “The Journey to Competitive Advantage Through Servant Leadership”. Bill’s interests extend beyond the book though, as much of his content on Twitter is other-focused. Among the advocates of Servant Leadership principles, Bill’s Twitter profile has the greatest density of the term, “Servant Leadership” itself. Go Bill!

Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership Twitter Profile1. Greenleaf Center (@GreenleafCenter)

I continue to be thrilled with the expansion of Greenleaf Center’s presence in social media. The landmark organization saw an uptick in 2011 but really jumped in with both feet in 2012. As the traditional starting point for many interested in Servant Leadership, it’s great to see Greenleaf now prominent on Twitter and other Social Media channels.

Twitter Profile: The Greenleaf Center promotes the awareness, understanding, and practice of servant leadership by individuals and organizations.

Honorable Mentions

The good news, is the competition increased again, in 2012. This is likely due both to the increased usage of Twitter as well as increased awareness and of Servant Leadership. The bad news is, that means some great folks didn’t make the list. The following folks (alphabetical order) should also be applauded for their many contributions to our movement on Twitter – and beyond:

Axiom News (@AxiomNews): In a world with plenty of negative press, Axiom still provides the best news on “Movements making a difference”.

Griff Lindel (@pgriffithl): Griff is the Dean of Business at Corban University. I especially recommend following Griff to entrepreneurs interested in Servant Leadership.

Jeff Miller (@JeffMiller79): If it’s happening in servant leadership circles, chances are, Jeff’s in the loop somehow. He’s often the guy behind the scenes.

JT Jackson (@ServantTweeter): Still the best Twitter name for anyone advocating servant leadership (with Mark Miller’s @LeadersServe as a runner up).

Laurie Beth Jones (@LaurieBethJones): Her books remain among the best examples for leaders in faith-based organizations.

Lazarus Ross (@lazarusross): I’ve been called a bit “edgy” when it comes to Servant Leadership. This is one of the many reasons I love Lazarus Ross’s posts. He’s not afraid to tell it like it is.

Lerende Leiders (@LerendeLeiders): If I spoke more languages, this list might look a bit different. To be sure, “Learning Leaders”, from the Netherlands, would be high on the list.

Trevor B. Lee (@TrevorBLee): With 30 years of executive search expertise, Trevor knows what works in leadership, so I’m thrilled to see him as a “Champion of servant leadership”.

Criteria for Consideration

Criteria this year is the same as last (see 2011 post for details). In short, it’s at my sole discretion, but based upon the frequency of posts specific to “servant leadership” and the activity of the account.
